Welcome's Arrow
This is my second Airway Arrow cache that I have placed in Nevada. It is located nearby the arrow on the San Francisco-Salt Lake City airway route - Beacon #45.
Consists of an standard ammo can and is rock and fossil themed ( my other hobbies) - starting inventory includes Wyoming fossil fish, Delta Utah trilobites, polished Utah agate and Utah Obsidian
The coordinates for the actual building and tower pads and Arrow are N 41 06.162, W 115 05.426 It is painted orange - in slightly rough condition but still there
Each beacon consisted of a generator building, fuel tank, tower with a rotating light on top and then the concrete arrow(which was originally painted yellow) - The arrow pointed to the next airway arrow or beacon to the east on the route. This arrow points towards Wells, Nevada. These beacons were installed back in the 1920's when the first planes flying air mail were operating. There were no radio direction finders, LORAN or GPS in those days. The pilots used the arrows by day and the beacon lights by night to find their way. The tower and building are gone but the concrete pads and the arrow are still there.
