I Conti Piazzoni, proprietari del podere di Castel Cerreto e Battaglie, fecero erigere nel 1858 a ricordo delle apparizioni di Lourdes, la grotta della Madonna del bosco, poco lontano dalla casa padronale.
La grotta fu costruita dai braccianti e contadini di Castel Cerreto nel bosco di cerri tra le due rogge, la roggia Brembilla a nord e la roggia di Sopra a sud, utilizzando le pietre del Brembo, e ancora oggi attorno alla grotta si trovano tre grossi cerri a ricordo dell’antico insedimento.
Venne restaurata nel 1923 e successivamente nel 1938 dagli abitanti del Cerreto.
La grotta è meta di visita e preghiera; la gente sente da vicino la presenza della Madonna, a lei affida speranze e dolori, la ringrazia e la invoca.
Le fotografie poste sull’altare sono dei religiosi che sono nati hanno vissuto nella realtà di Castel Cerreto.
Il nome Cerreto, deriva dal Bosco di Cerri, che anticamente circondava tutto il Borgo.
Oggi ne è rimasto solo qualche esemplare. Da visitare, il luogo Immerso nel tranquillo parco verde.
La Grotta dove è situata una statua della Madonna, oggi è divenuto luogo di devozione a Maria, è denominato " La madonna del Bosco".
