Geocache Description:

The Community Celebration @ Crosswinds Marsh event was held on October 24, 2020 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Geocaching. The original plan was to hold the event in connection with one of the public events presented by the Crosswinds Marsh Interpretive Center during the spring. Because of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) situation the event was canceled, and the Anniversary Celebration was postponed. This cache is one of 12 that was placed in connection with the celebration. The theme of the series is Nature Events Through the Months at Crosswinds.

January: The season of brumation.
Cold blooded animals such as frogs, toads and snakes wait out the cold winter months in a hibernation like state called Brumation. Unlike hibernation though almost all body functions, including heartbeat and breathing stop. Frogs even freeze solid! Don’t worry, this does not harm them at all as they have a special type of antifreeze that fills their blood vessels to protect them from bursting. If you were to come upon one of these frogs you would assume that they are dead. Once the weather warms up and they are able to unfreeze they go about their lives completely normally until the next winters freeze.

Bonus Cache
There is a 13th Geocache in this series called a Bonus Cache. The only way to obtain the coordinates of this geocache is to solve this puzzle: The coordinates are N 4A BC.DEF W 8G HI.JKL where the numbers associated with letters will be found in the covers of each of the cache containers. Be sure to make note of these as you find each of the caches. For a link to the Bonus Cache click HERE
