Geocache Description:

This cache is named for the artwork a few feet south of the cache location.

David Farquharson’s sculpture entitled Pennant Whimsy was installed at the south end of Cherry Knolls Park, across from Carl Sandburg Elementary School.

The sculpture resembles wind-blown pennant flags on top of wavy flag poles. Each pennant uses different meshed metal materials to create multiple moirĂ© effects, creating the illusion of motion along its surface. Farquharson incorporated the colors of nearby schools in the design. The sculpture is made of aluminum and stainless steels, and is painted a variety of colors. The sculpture’s poles are 16 feet tall and span eight feet in diameter.

David Farquharson creates interactive sculptures using perforated metal and lights.  His piece, MoirĂ© Tree, is part of the City of Greeley Art Program’s ‘Uptown Trees’ project on 8th Ave. His sculpture, Light Waves, was temporarily on display at The Gardens on Havana plaza, in Aurora.  David received his MFA degree in Sculpture from Maryland Institute College of Art, and has undergraduate degrees in Visual Art, Art History and Computer Science from Gettysburg College, PA.

This cache is located in the first obvious cache hide location to the north of the sculpture. Feel free to call me at seven-2-zero eight-41 81-seven-9 (during reasonable hours!) if you're stymied.

This cache is in the Cherry Knolls community! Cherry Knolls was incorporated in May 1960, which is why you see so many mature trees, larger yards, and a diversity of homes. Neighbors range from young families to original homeowners. Our parks, schools, and pool are tightly woven into neighborhood life. The baby sitting co-op is the longest operating organization of its type in the Denver area. There are several other geocaches in the vicinity that can be accessed by a pleasant stroll or bike ride along Big Dry Creek and through the neighborhood. If you see any litter, please do CITO (Cache In Trash Out)! Happy hunting!
