Geocache Description:

The Grand Hotel is a Grade II listed building and it was built between 1892 and 1897 in Clacton-on-Sea's hey day as a high class tourist resort. It is of steel box frame construction with red brick curtain walls, a very unusual construction type at the time and according to Historic England it is the oldest building in the country of this construction type. When it opened for the first time it would have been the height of luxury for the time.

Since the first World War, Clacton has suffered a slow decline as improved transport links gave rise to greater opportunities for travel.

It was used by the military during World war 2 and then converted to a teacher training college in 1950. In the early 2000's it was converted into flats.

The cache is not placed within the grounds of The Grand, but on the seafront opposite. Tweezers might be handy.
