Lincoln's Pallbearer:
Simon Barr was the last surviving pallbearer of Abraham Lincoln. There were twelve pallbearers for the great war president. Mr Barr was first sergeant in the Veteran Reserves when he carried Lincoln's body.
He was born in Hollidaysburg. His trade was a carpenter. He was among the first to offer his service for his country, as he enlisted in the three months service when Lincoln called for volunteers. He re-enlisted on September 14, 1861, and was wounded in the battle of Chancellorsville, receiving a gunshot wound in the hip. He again re-enlisted on April 14, 1864, and on July 12, 1864 received another severe wound in the leg, while he was in command of his company. After his brilliant career in the war for preservation of the union of his country, Mr Barr returned to Hollidaysburg.
