Geocache Description:

A long-time refuge for local kids seeking privacy, this clandestine location has been hosting parties for over 60 years.Β  It was mistakenly dubbed, "Al Capone's Seat" or "Capone's Bench" -- and maybe not so mistakenly dubbed, "The Stone(d) Bench."

The cache is a camo-ed container:

It is about 35 feet behind the center of the bench, under some rocks, beyond the blowdown:

𝐍𝐄𝐖 π‚πŽππ“π€πˆππ„π‘ 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐄𝐏𝐓. πŸπŸ‘, πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ“.

According to a 1956 archived article from The Montclair Times, the structure was dedicated to one, Charles Alexander Capron, for his conservancy efforts at Mills Reservation.Β  The inscription, which is no longer legible because of age and/or vandalism, reads:

β€œThis place has been built by the friends of Charles Alexander Capron to commemorate the great talents, the unflagging energy and the generous spirit he brought to a life of service, A.D. 1956.”

Currently, there is a lot of garbage in the area.Β  I filled up a small shopping bag and dropped it in the nearby garbage can at the bottom of the hill, along Highland Ave., above the Iris Gardens.Β  It's easy, if every finder did the same, geocaching could make this neglected area a better place.
