Geocache Description:

Lockport Bridge - A wooden covered bridge, built in 1871, stood at this crossing until a steel truss bridge replaced it in 1919. An earlier covered bridge also reportedly crossed the Tiffin River east of this crossing as early as 1860.

The Lockport Bridge is almost entirely made of wood. There are no steel beams supporting the bridge and the few non-wood components of the bridge include a lightweight concrete deck supported by wooden structural members, a tin roof covering the pedestrian walkway on the bridge's south side, concrete abutments and a few steel tension wires.

The completed bridge opened to traffic on June 19, 1999.

The three-span truss bridge is 176' long and 30' wide. Its construction cost $1.7 million.

The rebuilt Lockport Bridge differs little from historic covered bridges except for its size. It meets modern bridge requirements by being large enough and strong enough to allow a semi truck to pass through the span.

The bridge and surrounding area is often used for graduation and family photo ops.
