Geocache Description:

Jacaranda

Geocaching means different things to different geocachers: For some it's the adrenaline rush of that midnight dash for FTF; for some it's about numbers or meeting personal challenges; for some it's seeing something new, learning something, solving something, having a laugh at some rollocking tale, the team spirit of a focused outing with friends, getting some fresh air and exercise, savouring an experience - or a bit of all of these things, and more. However we play the game, it's all good.

The intention of this short multi is to showcase - preferably in flowering season - the beauty of Kirribilli's jacarandas.

Jacaranda mimosifolia is a sub-tropical tree native to south-central South America that has been widely planted all over the world because of its attractive and long-lasting pale indigo flowers.

In Sydney, jacaranda season is in full swing from late October to November- and one of the best places to view the blooms is McDougall St, Kirribilli.

Trains, buses and ferries can bring you here. Parking is likely to be problematic in peak flower time, but you can be lucky.

Please take heed of the purple notices on the footpath/sidewalk warning you to watch out for traffic. I'd add, fallen petals make a wonderful purple carpet, but can be slippery.

Start at the posted co ordinates and make your way along the right hand side of McDougall Street. The information you'll need to calculate GZ can most easily be obtained from this viewpoint.
The jacarandas of course can be appreciated equally well from anywhere in the street!!!

The geocache is hidden at S33 50.ABC E 151 12.DEF

A - On the street sign at the posted co ordinates is the street name, and a green direction pointer just beneath this. A is the number of letters in the second word on the lower sign.
C – Continue to the playhouse. Under the name in lightbulbs, there are two words written on a wooden beam. C is the difference between the number of letters in these two words.
B – Continue to the old Sydney Water Board building. B is the difference between the two digits in its SPS number.
D – Look across to the other side of the road. There is a prominent house number on the wall. D is the second digit.
F – Continue to Milson Park. You will see a green sign down a bit in the park. F is the third digit of the year on this sign.
E – Continue up McDougall Street. You will come to a historical sign on the side of a building wall. E is the number of letters (ignore the hyphen) in the ice cream brand mentioned.
