Poquoson is Native American for "Great March." That helps to explain the pterodactyl sized mosquitoes that swarm the community year-round. Poquoson is also known for their annual Seafood Festival, complete with work-boat races, music bands, vendor stands, animal displays for young children and a variety of local foods, all celebrating Poquoson's heritage.
