Geocache Description:

Welcome to Woodland, Delaware!

Home of the historic Woodland Ferry, the Woodland Park, and the Barnes Woods Nature Preserve

The Woodland Ferry is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ferry crossing on the Nanticoke River was established by James Cannon and his family in the 1740’s and it is one of the oldest continuously running ferry locations in the United States. It is FREE, open to the public, and is operated by the State of Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). The ferry is located at 5426 Woodland Ferry Road.

Woodland Park is located at 27673 Woodland Road. This beautiful park sits on 20 acres with nearly a mile of walking trails. It is owned by Sussex County and is located at the former site of a par-3 golf course. A large parking lot is available.

The Barnes Woods Nature Preserve is located at 27268 Woodland Road. It is a 23 acre forest which has interesting walking trails. The preserve is bounded on two sides by tidal creeks. (There is no available parking.)

You are welcome to stroll through the trails at Woodland Park, take a walk through the Barnes Woods Nature Preserve, or take a FREE ferry ride (vehicle and/or pedestrians) across the Nanticoke River to Laurel, Delaware.
