Welcome to the third history cache that I have created, this time in the pretty setting of a former railway line.
The Lincolnshire loop line was a sweeping double-track line that opened in 1848, and was for four years the main line route from London to Scotland (somewhat surprisingly!). Later serving predominantly as the connection between Peterborough and Lincoln, the line saw its demise like so many others in the late 60s.
The River has its own transportation story, central to the draining of the fens - for hundreds of years folk have lived and moved along the waterway. Look out for signs on the path depicting the life of an eel-catching Fenman, and tales of the river ferry that operated near Stixwould station.
