Geocache Description:

Joseph "Dandy" Don Meredith

April 10, 1938 - December 5, 2010

Mount Vernon, Texas

Dandy Don Meredith was an American football quarterback, sports commentator and actor.  He spent all nine seasons of his professional playing career with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL.  He was named the Pro Bowl in each of his last three years as a player.

During his career, he had a 50.7 percent completion rate, throwing for 17,199 yards and 135 touchdowns with a lifetime passer rating of 74.8.  According to the NFL, the longest pass with no yards after catch was his 83 yard pass to Bob Hayes.

Meredith was the best athlete in the MVHS class of 1956, the most handsome, the most fun and had the loudest whistle.

During an interview with Dmagazine; Meredith proposed a toast, with tea of course; "Here's to the girls that say they will and here's to the girls that say they don't". Susan, his wife, sighs and walks away. Meredith then sang a snippet of a country song; revealing that he inadvertently killed one of his wife’s rose bushes by regularly peeing on it.

Meredith’s closing quote was: "I've always known who I was; "I'm Billy Jack's little brother, Jeff and Hazel's baby boy, and I'm from Mount Vernon, Texas.
