Geocache Description:

This geocache was placed under permit by the Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) which operates multiple Nature Preserves throughout the Greater Finger Lakes Area.  The Houghton Land Preserve in Corning, NY is just a short distance from Historic South Side and Market Street, making it the perfect place for a quick hike.  Visit www.FLLT.org for more information about the Houghton Land Preserve as well as other protected lands in the area!

We decided to place this cache after enjoying this hike countless times over the past year, and we want to encourage more folks to get out and enjoy it as well!  To get to the cache without any side-tracks, it is about a half-mile walk through the woods while gaining about 170ft of elevation.  This walk opens from the woods to overlook a large open field with views of the rolling hills.  Trust me when I say that the view is worth it!

Per FLLT guidance, the cache is placed no more than 10 feet off of the established trail and shall not be placed on, in, or near sensitive ecological areas such as wetlands, cliffs, gorges, streams, stream banks, or locations known to contain rare plant or animal species or in locations or areas that could potentially cause danger to visitors trying to locate the cache such  as stream beds, elevated in trees, and steep slopes or cliff edges.  The cache also shall not be buried or placed under rocks or logs.

Please do not leave any food items or anything edible/attractive to wildlife in the cache!

Congrats to kenziebee13 for the FTF!
