Geocache Description:

Welcome to part 3 of the King's Cache mini series honoring the Girl and Boy Scouts of America.   This cache is called Gold and Eagle and Forward. This cache series takes place in the hiking trails behind King Street School. This is a lock and lock hidden near a beautiful view of the Upper Kohanza reservoir.  Be cafeful as there are some fallen trees after recent 2020 summer storms. You may have to bushwack off of the blue/red trails to get to the caches.

A Tree for the Future

Every Spring

The Sun rises in the trees

from root to branch,

And makes a tree that looks dead

blossom with green leaves

and life.

So it is that the Scouting Spirit

rises within you,and

inspires you to put forth your best.

Juliette Gordon Low

Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award is a major accomplishment in a girl's life and a powerful example of how girl scouting helps girls develop the courage, confidence, and character to be successful leaders today and in the future.  It is an award with national standards, the GSGA represents an individual's accomplishments, leadership. commitment, creativity, and personal effort contributed to making their community a better place to live.  Only 5% of girl scouts actually obtain this award.  I earned my gold award in August 2012.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program.  Since it's inception in 1911, the Eagle Scout Award has been earned by over 2 million young men.  The title of Eagle Scout is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle".  The requirements for Eagle candidate must include earning atleast 21 merit badges, and demonstrate Scout spirit through the BS oath and law, service and leadership.  The candidate must create an extensive service project that the scout plans, organizes, leads, and benefits the community.  This is the culmination of the Eagle Scout's leadership training and its significant effect in the community.  Only 5% of boys earn this award.

Some famous people who have been awarded Eagle Scout: Gerald R. Ford is the only U.S. president; Neil Armstrong, first person to set foot on the moon; academy award winner Steven Spielberg; Mike Rowe, host of the Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs; secretary of defense Robert Gates and Donald Rumsfeld; basketball hall of famer and US Senator Bill Bradley and MLB all star Shane Victorino.  My brother earned his Eagle in May 2014.
