[ITA] Il busto è posizionato su una stele di pietra locale, ricoperta di concrezioni calcaree derivanti da fenomeni di dissoluzione carsica. Questi fenomeni, che sono originati dall'azione di scioglimento svolta dall'acqua piovana nel suo passaggio entro le rocce calcaree e dalla successiva deposizione del carbonato di calcio entro le cavità più ampie, sono responsabili della formazione di stalattiti, stalattiti e concrezioni da scorrimento (in inglese, flowstone) di tutti i tipi nelle grotte attorno a Trieste.
Per loggare il found di questa Earthcache, devi osservare il basamento del monumento e rispondere a queste domande: 1. Secondo te, il blocco di roccia apparteneva ad una stalattite, una stalagmite oppure è stato ottenuto dal fianco di una cavità concrezionata (flowstone)? Motiva la tua risposta. 2. Osserva il retro del monumento: sui due fianchi, è presente uno strato più scuro. Descrivine la consistenza. Da cosa è costituito? Qual'è il suo spessore? 3. Un particolare sul lato anteriore della roccia ti mostra come è avvenuta la concrezione del calcare all'interno della grotta e qual era l'orientamento della roccia. Il blocco di roccia ha lo stesso orientamento che aveva in natura?

[ENG] Kugy's statue is placed above a local stone, covered with calcareous concretions resulting from karst dissolution phenomena. These phenomena, which originate from the dissolution action performed by rainwater as it passes through limestone rocks followed by calcium carbonate deposition in wider cavities, are responsible for the formation of stalactites, stalactites and concretions (flowstone) of all kinds in the caverns around Trieste.
To log this Earthcache as found, you have to look at the base of the monument and answer these questions: 1. In your opinion, did the rock piece belong to a stalactite, a stalagmite or was it obtained from the side of a concreted cavern (flowstone)? Motivate your answer. 2. Look at the back of the monument: on the two sides, you'll notice a darker layer. Describe its consistency. What is it made of? What is its thickness? 3. On the front side of the rock, instead, a detail shows how the limestone concretion took place inside the cavern and how the rock was oriented. Does the rock piece have the same orientation as it did in nature?
