This is the second version of the Caesar square cipher cache as the first had to be moved due to recent construction in the area. The new puzzle will need to be solved in order to find the new coordinates to locate the cache.
This was a Mystery Cache, placed as part of a series of cipher caches. They have been done in an effort to teach me, and anyone else , various techniques of cipher encryption and how to solve them.
It is not meant to be difficult, as the name of the type of cipher technique is provided with a brief description and example of how this cipher code is decoded.
Caesar Square or Box
The Caesar Square requires the decoder to write the message crosswise in a square. If you then read down the columns it will reveal the answer. For example , take the encoded message WAULHNSBAUUOTNAX. It contains 16 letters which has the square root of 4. Therefore create a square of 4 x 4 boxes. Write the letters crosswise in each row of the box . If you then read down each column front top to bottom, it becomes the phrase 'What an unusual box'.
While it would be possible to use a rectangle instead of a square, a square is the standard mechanism for this particular encoding device, therefore if the number of letters in a code is a square number (9, 16, 25, 36, etc.) it may indicate that a Caesar Square is being used.
