This short section of road used to lead on to Water Lane on the Ince Hall estate. Water Lane led to Millhouse Farm and Grove Farm, the former being demolished and replaced with a Pre-Fabricated housing estate called Aureool (Oriel) Gardens, built in the late 1950s to house refinery workers for Royal Dutch Shell. I believe Aureool is Dutch for 'Halo'.
Ellesmere Port Council requested to the Magistrates' Court that Water Lane be 'stopped up' since access was no longer required, which may be when the Shell fences went up and this Foot Bridge that connected two fields came down. I would love to add to the history if anyone knows anymore? Was there a new access road put in next to Wood Farm? Were the residents of Aureool Gardens removed and the buildings just left for 10-15 as the different OS maps suggest?
According to some of the old OS maps, there was a building called "White Lodge" on the left hand corner as you go on to Water Lane, any info on this would be great!
Hope you enjoyed the Cache!
