Geocache Description:

About Our Cache

This cache is a night cache placed in the Cumberland Community Forest.  The cache is not placed at the coordinates provided.  Instead, use these coordinates to start your journey at the Mama Bear trailhead off the Davis Lake Main logging road.

Please be stealthy as mountain bikes and hikers are always out enjoying these trails - even at night.  Please secure cache well before you leave.

Recommended parking is located at the Cumberland Community Recreation Centre on the corner of Dunsmuir Avenue and Sutton Road.  There are restrooms and a bike washing station located there.  The trail head is located on the corner of Sutton Road and Comox Lake Road.  Waypoints have been provided for the parking area, the trail head, and a trail information board.

Navigating to the Cache Zone

You will need flashlights or headlamps to navigate to the cache zone.  Reflectors have been placed along the route from the provided coordinates to the final cache zone.  These reflectors are white and are approximately 1 inch in diameter.  They are mounted approximately 6 feet from the ground.  You will spot most of them on the right side of the route.  However, a few have been placed on the left for better visibility.  Intersections are clearly marked for the journey in and out.  Some parts of the route are well defined without intersections so there are a few sections with only a couple of reflectors. DO NOT USE ANY BICYCLE REFECTORS AS NAVIGATIONAL AIDS!  They have been placed by other trail users.

Please watch your footing in the dark.  There are a number of roots and low obstacles on the trails.  Winter windstorms leave a bit of debris as well.

Arriving at the Cache Zone

The cache zone is marked on the left of the trail using a white reflector and a red reflector placed together.  From there, look for a single white reflector about 15 feet from the path.  This will help you locate the cache.  There is no bushwhacking required.  You will need a code to access the container.  Decrypt for access: ORNE

Returning to the Trailhead

To return to the Mama Bear trailhead, turn around and follow the same route out.  Intersections are marked with reflectors to assist you.
