Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series of three hidden on Aber Foreshaw road. This location gives you a fantastic view of Cernarfon Castle and the town Wales which are a very short walk away via the Aber swing bridge.

Caernarfon Castle is recognised around the world as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages. The castle and the town wall is grouped with Edward I’s other castles at Conwy, Beaumaris and Harlech as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Edward and his military architect Master James of St George built the castle, town walls and a quay all at the same time. This building project took 47 years and cost £25,000 - more than the treasury would have raised in taxes in a year.

The immense curtain walls and daunting King’s Gate were designed to withstand assault. But it was more than just a fortress, it was a political statement - the polygonal towers, eagle statues and multi-coloured masonry echoed imperial Roman architecture, especially the walls of Constantinople. They also recalled the Welsh myth of Macsen Wledig, who dreamed of a great fort at the mouth of a river – ‘the fairest that man ever saw’.

Edward I’s son, the future Edward II, was born in the castle, in 1284. He was crowned ‘Prince of Wales’ in 1301 and the investiture of the current Prince of Wales was held here in 1969.

You are looking for a small clip lock container, large enough to hold small swapables. This is a high muggle area so please take care to hide the box exactly where you find it, and out of obvious view.
