Henderson County was officially founded in 1838 and named for Leonard Henderson, chief justice of the State Supreme Court who passed away in 1833. The town of Hendersonville received it's charter in 1847.
The man who gave the land for Hendersonville’s charter, Judge Mitchell King, decreed that Main Street should be wide enough to turn around a coach pulled by four horses. Today, Main Street’s wide sidewalks and curvilinear design attract pedestrians, alfresco diners and boutique shoppers.
The adventure labs will take you down Hendersonville's Main Street where you will need to locate five Historical Markers. At each site answer a question correctly to claim a virtual find and unlock a clue in the journal to this bonus geocache hidden nearby. Please note access to the cache is only available during business hours.
I have fond memories of Hendersonville, as visiting in 2000 changed my life. I made many lifelong friends and met my wife whilst working at nearby Blue Star Camps.
A massive thank you to wncsteph for placing and maintaining this hide on my behalf and to the land owner for allowing the placement on private property.
I hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane.
