When the Guangzhou greenways were implemented in 2009 and 2010, this location at Xiaobei was the northernmost point of the highest profile greenway along the Donghaochong canal. It highlighted many of the best aspects of the greenway, including:
- Continuity - though there are some serious problems at the points where the greenway crosses east-weast roads, it is fairly continuous from here all the way to the Pearl River
- Integration and connectivity - with a location adjacent to the Xiaobei metro station (which also opened in 2010) and bus stop, the greenway integrates well with transit
- Revitalization - a previously degraded area was upgraded with public space improvements.
Have these improvements been fully realized in the decade following? You be the judge.
