Geocache Description:

Daer 02 Allershaw Lodge

Allershaw Lodge is situated in a most attractive moorland setting overlooking the Daer Water, an upper tributary of the River Clyde.

Allershaw Lodge is a traditional shooting lodge built of rendered stone and blockwork under a slate roof with a south westerly aspect. It was fully refurbished in 2005 and now provides family and/or guest accommodation of a very high standard indeed. Since 2005 it has been used as a shooting lodge for the Leadhills grouse moor.

The front door leads into the elegant staircase hall off which the sitting and dining rooms are found. The sitting room has an open fire and a delightful informal atmosphere. The dining room has a large bay window overlooking the Daer Water and direct access to the magnificent drawing/billiard room. French windows in the drawing room open out on to the south and west facing terrace.

The kitchen was designed to cater for large shooting parties and is equipped for this purpose. In addition there is a utility room, a drying room, larder and a secure gun room. A staff bedroom completes the ground floor.

On the first floor there are seven superb double or twin bedroom suites of which five have ensuite shower rooms and two have ensuite bathrooms. There is a further single bedroom and shower-room.

Outside there is a single garage, a boiler room, a recently constructed store room and two dog kennels. The gardens and grounds extend to about 3.32 acres (1.34 ha) and are simply laid out for ease of maintenance. They include a gravel parking area, lawns, mature trees and a terrace.

Daer Reservoir is a man-made waterbody created by the damming of the Daer Water, a tributary of the River Clyde in the Southern Uplands of Scotland. It lies within the Lowther Hills in South Lanarkshire. A minor public road leaving the A702 follows the Daer Water south to the dam and then continues along the western margin of the reservoir as far as Kirkhope. The reservoir was officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1956 to supply water to the Scottish Central Belt.

The Southern Upland Way passes just to the north of the dam and affords views over the reservoir for the walker.

This cache is hiding close to the cattle grid. You will need a pen, maybe tweezers, so standard cache finding stuff.
