In 1914 the first phone line was completed and ran from the East Coast to the West Coast. It was called the Transcontinental Phone Line. AT&T President, Theodore Vail, commissioned this line to be constructed in 1908 as the company's top priority; in six years it was complete. The first phone conversation on the line took place on January 25, 1915, between Alexander Graham Bell in New York and Thomas Watson in San Francisco.
Locally, this line ran east to west from Buffalo to Cleveland. It went straight through Girard, PA, underground, right here where you are standing if you have found the cache. If you have found it, you are looking at an actual piece of the line that was dug up in 2014 when constructing a nearby residence. The piece of the line is NOT the cache. Please do not disturb it.
