The Endangered UK Birds Series is a circular walk of just under 4 miles starting and finishing in Fleckney. Parking is available either in the village car park, N52.535156, W1.043887, or along one of the side streets in the village.
There are 244 species of birds in the UK. Over a quarter, 27% of them are on the Red List - ‘highest conservation concern’.
Ten years ago only 21% of the species were endangered and included on the Red List.
You may see many birds along the walk and if you're lucky you may see one of the birds on the Red List.
The Wood Warbler is the largest of the green warblers and has two totally different songs. There are still some woodlands in the Dales, notably Strid Wood on the Bolton Abbey Estate and Grass Wood near Grassington, where the distinctive trilling call of the Wood Warbler can still be heard.
