CONGRATULATIONS to PixieQueen and GeorgeJaDawg for the FTF!
This geocache highlights a relative obscure fact of racing history.
Not many people know that Savannah is the cradle of Grand Prix racing in America.
Yes, indeed, racing started on unpaved roads in 1908 with 3 more races in 1910 and 1911.
Then there was silence about racing for 85 years.
In the 1990s a group of business men with the help of public funds developed Hutchinson Island and its road network.
It included a 10 turn racing circuit. This is the first time a public road has been predesigned with the intention to also use it for racing.
Pit Row is traditionally behind a wall separating the race track from the area where mechanics and equipment are available to the racers.
There are usually one or two races throughout the year, mostly with a historic perspective with vintage cars. Cache is not available during races.
The road is a public maintained road.
