Sir Arthur Conan Doyle probably could never have guessed how popular Sherlock Holmes would still be, more than a century after he first appeared in print. Statues, books, movies, TV shows, radio plays, merchandise of all sorts - some adaptations are faithful to the original, some wander quite a way from it, but all pay homage to the sleuth and his faithful assistant.
One of my favorite adaptations is the Enola Holmes series of young adult novels by Nancy Springer. Enola is the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft, and not at all the typical young lady of the time. She’s just as clever as her big brother at solving mysteries, and the books are chock full of ciphers and puzzles which are definitely part of the fun. Fans of the series will know where the title of this cache comes from.
