Highworth is an ancient hilltop town, the highest town in Wiltshire at 133m above sea level, with views over the Upper Thames Valley. This historic market town on the edge of The Cotswolds has retained many original features from the 17th and 18th century.
John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, wrote “When I am abroad and I want to recall a typically English town, then I think of Highworth. Churches and chapels; walled gardens with pears and plums; inns; the distant cemetery; old shops and winding streets.”
He also wrote that it was “extraordinary because it has more beautiful buildings than ugly ones.”
