The roots of the USCGA are in the School of Instruction of the Revenue Cutter Service, which opened its doors in 187B in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Before arriving in its current location in 193A, the school had stops in Maryland in 1900 and then at Fort Trumbull in New London in 1910.
The academy received its current name in 191C when the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the Life Saving Service to form the USCG.
The academy was racially integrated in 196D and the first women were enrolled in 197E.
Also associated with the 103 acres are the 29F feet of the USCGC Eagle, which was received by the United States as a German war reparation in 1946.
