Geocache Description:

This series commemorates my 50+ years of snowmobiling and the 20 snowmobiles my family and I had fun on during that time. In 1967, our family started snowmobiling in Syracuse, New York. Back then we would ride on Oneida Lake, or any field we could get permission to ride on. A special thanks to Mark & Glenn for helping me with this series.

This was our 15th sled. We purchased it new, just after we purchased the Indy Lite 340 Deluxe. The Indy Trail Deluxe was our first “2-up touring” sled. It had a 440cc fan-cooled engine producing about 50 horsepower. The first time we took it on Houghton Lake, the top speed was about 65 mph for a short distance, then it would drop to about 40 mph. At the same time, I noticed the smell of burning plastic. That smell turned out to be the hyfax overheating. We then realized that the track was adjusted too tight from the dealer. We loosened it up a bit and then it would easily do 65+ mph with 2 people onboard all the way across the lake. I believe this was also the first sled I rode from St. Helen to the “Tip-Up Town Festival” in Houghton Lake Michigan.

Congratulations to Bandit35757 on the FTF!
