Geocache Description:


The book Silent Spring was published in 1962 and was authored by Rachel Carson. It is known for kick-starting environmental consciousness among the American public, as it documented adverse impacts of indiscriminate use of pesticides. For example, the pesticide DDT (full name, the mountful Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) bioaccumulated up the foodchain in predatory birds, thinning their eggshells and creating a dramatic drop in their population.

While I was walking up to the location I planned to place this cache, I saw a hawk circling overhead, which inspired me to include this historical factoid and loose theme.
