Northern Bruce Peninsula, Ontario
The Lion's Head Cenotaph was erected in 1920 in memory of those who died in World War I and later expanded to honour those who served in World War II. In May of 1924, the Cenotaph was moved to the front of the Eastnor Township Hall. In 1926 the Eastnor Horticultural Society purchased four village lots from the Tackaberry sub-division across the road from the Township Hall and established the Memorial Park. In March of 1931 the Monument was moved once again to its present location in the Memorial Park.
In 1996 Eastnor Horticultural Society and Branch#202 of the Royal Canadian Legion Lion's Head did some major work at the Cenotaph site which included bringing the grade of the property down to street level, some five to six feet lower than it was to make it easier for Veterans access.
On June 28, 1964, the unveiling and dedication of a plaque in honor of Sgt. John Pearson, V.C. took place in Lion's Head. The historic plaque was unveiled by a grandson of Mr. Pearson, L.C. Baker of Toronto. The inscription and Plaque are a gift from the Ontario government through the Provincial Historic Records Department. The plaque reads as follows:
