In the 1884 Brooklyn Settlement, there were four general stores, one drug store, one hardware store, a large grain elevator and warehouse, two hotels, a post office, two blacksmith shops, a wagon & harness shop, a meat market, a lumber yard, a creamery, a clothing store, a shoe shop, a doctor, a barber shop, a graded school, and a church (Methodist Episcopal). The Village of Brooklyn was officially incorporated in 1905.
You are currently standing at the intersection of three counties. On the West side of the road, you are in Green County. Dane County is across the road to the Northeast, and Rock County is across the road to the Southeast.
