Amsterdam, city of canals. The bottom line with this cache is: No boat, no cache!
26 may 2012
Brand new cache in place :)
The cache is a plastic green military equipment case about 3/4 the size of a normal ammo box. It contains a log, a pen and a number of quality items to swap with.
All extremely child-friendly, also for the 30+ kids.
Please swap good stuff or else just take something and log it.
Be careful, the new cache has a pigeon-repellant system on it! Frankly it consists of just a bunch of sharp spikes to prevent the pigeons from sitting and pooping on it.
The last cache was turned into a major health hazard by the pigeons so please forgive me for installing these spikes ;) I will monitor the logs and my twitter to see how people experience it.
About boats and water cycles
If you don't have a boat, you can go rent a watercycle. The cache is about 15 minutes from the rental next to the Anne Frank house, or 20 minutes from the one next to the Leidseplein. You don't have to drop off your canalbike on the same spot where you rented it.
If you're a tourist, enjoy, the trip to the cache should get you off the beaten track.
Anne Frank house rental: N52 22.468 E004 52.996
Leidseplein rental: N52 21.871 E004 52.738
Look for the cache half way across the water, up there where it is dark and the sunlight obscures your vision.
It may be difficult or even impossible to reach if you are a short person alone on a canalbike. I really hope everybody can reach it.
Finally: It can be rather busy there with locals in their boat. Make sure you remain unseen while handling the cache!!! Do not blow the cover of this cache. Put the box back high up where it cannot be seen. If you rent a canal bike, save money by renting for one person and letting the other(s) jump on board around the corner, out of sight from the rental :)
