Fort Edmonton was a trading post established by the Hudson's Bay Company on the Northern Saskatchewan River in 1795.
The first Fort Edmonton (1795-1802) was built close to where the Sturgeon River and the North Saskatchewan River meet, north of present day Fort Saskatchewan.
The second Fort Edmonton (1802-1810) was located on the Rossdale Flats in present-day Edmonton.
The third Fort Edmonton (1810-1812) was located close to present-day Smoky Lake.
The forth Fort Edmonton (1813-1830) moved back to the Rossdale Flats in present-day Edmonton.
The fifth Fort Edmonton (1830-1915) moved west to higher ground to a site south of the Alberta Legislature because of flooding that occured in the 1820's.
