This is the bonus cache for the Adventure Lab, We Do Remember Them, that we released on November 11, 2020.
The locations for the labs form a circuit that can be walked in about 45 minutes. The final is further away and you may wish to drive here.
When the Armistice of Compiegne was signed in 1918, it ended fighting on land, sea and air between the Allies and Germany. It was signed at 5.45am but came into force on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It ended the Great War, now referred to as WW1. Sadly 2,738 men died on the last day of the war as fighting continued until 11 o’clock. New Zealand, as part of the Commonwealth, was part of the Allies. The last Commonwealth soldier to die was a Canadian, Private Price, who was shot at 10.58am.
Armistice Day is remembered in the UK with 2 minutes silence at 11am, preceded by the Last Post and concluding with Reveille.
Usually Armistice Day is not really commemorated in NZ as our commemoration is on ANZAC Day, however, because covid restrictions prevented the usual services on April 25 2020, remembrance services were scheduled in various parts of NZ on both November 8 (the preceding Sunday) and November 11.

If you drive to the bonus cache, you may go past Nelson College. The Scriptorium at the College was built as a commmeration to those Old Boys who died in war. It is now a museum and holds the school archives. 650 Nelson College Old Boys served in WW1, and 120 were killed. The Scriptorium is open to the public but only by appointment, so was not appropriate to include in the lab locations.
