The LEH Baigent Memorial Reserve has had a bit of a chequered history. It was set up under a 1982 covenant from Lewis Baigent a prominent Nelson sawmiller.
A few years ago Carter Holt Harvey applied to subdivide the land. This application was turned down, so the land again operates as a reserve. The sign on the gate says it is locked between sunset and sunrise. The road goes through the reserve to private properties beyond.
Access to the beach in the inlet makes this a great place to swim and kayak - - when the tide is in.
