The Aquetong Watershed is a small rural watershed located in the Aquetong Valley in New Hope and Solebury Pennsylvania. Measuring just 7.6 square miles long, it once had 5 mills powered by this creek. It is classified as a High Quality-Cold Water Fishery by the PA Department of Environmental Protection, underlain by limestone and dolomite geological formations. In the Lenape language, Achewetonk was the name of the village that was near the spring, and this was later adapted to ‘Aquetong.’
One of the reasons for removing the dam and draining the lake (which warmed the water)was to allow the creek to be cold water allowing trout to return. And from the Watershed’s FB page it says, “Aquetong is on its way to becoming the High Quality-Cold Water Fishes (HQ-CWF) steam it once was.”
