Winton Wetlands is located approximately three hours north east of Melbourne near to the Hume Fwy and is open all day, every day of the year except on days of Total Fire Ban. Entry to the site is free. The nearby towns of Benalla, Glenrowan and Wangaratta provide a number of options for activities and accommodation to experience whilst visiting the region.
The Winton Wetlands Project is one of the world’s most significant environmental, social and economic renewal projects, whether measured by its environmental ambitions, its social and cultural significance, or its sheer scale.
In 2010 the Winton Wetlands Committee of Management was charged with restoring and renewing the old dam site.
The Winton Wetland Trails series of caches highlights a series of walking and cycling tracks throughout the Wetlands which allow you to explore the woodlands, wetlands, ponds and history of the site. Each of the WWT caches is situated at or near to one of the many and increasing information signs around the site.
Womats are nocturnal so keep your eyes peeled and let the staff at Mokoan Hub know if you spot any!
The cache is an easy find in a standard hide location, however it has the potential to be very vulnerable to muggles. Please ensure you hide it well after you've found it.
HAPPY CACHING :-)
