Didi’s Ghost Moose Chase Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bernie321: Most of this trail has remained intact, but a few of the most crucial "flames" have extinguished (ie gone missing) a few times now, making this trail too much of a headache to maintain. Didi believes it is the ghost telling us she's ready to move on to the spirit world...so she came out with Bernie321 (on a dark and foggy night) and pulled the ghost moose stash and the remaining reflectors. Maybe the stash will show up in another location some time? ....we'll just have to wait and see!

Geocache Description:

*This is a Night Cache...please read "some practical matters" below.

One dark winter evening, Didi and her human owner Bernie321 headed out for a walk at Didi’s favorite run-around spot, Connor Bog. Didi was raring to go after a long day confined indoors while her owners worked (and did Zoom school). After parking at the Raspberry trailhead, Bernie321 let Didi out of the car with a tight grasp on her leash; she would not let go until she finished scanning the area for the moose who like to hang out nearby.

Just as she gave the all-clear and let Didi free, a dark (yet shimmering) form with glowing red eyes appeared out of nowhere!!!

“Oh no!” Bernie321 exclaimed. “It’s the mad moose ghost of Connor Bog!”

The moose ghost headed into the bog with Didi in hot pursuit.  Didi, with her pent up energy, had no trouble keeping up with the lightning speed of the mad moose ghost. Didi and the ghost ran so fast that sparks flew from their feet and landed in the brush of the bog- igniting tiny fires which glowed brightly in the dark!

Bernie321 followed the trail of ghostly fires along a winding route through the park in search of Didi (hoping to avoid the mad moose ghost).

After passing about 50 ghostly fires Bernie321 finally came to a thicket of woods where the fires got a lot closer together, and they were no longer on a regular trail but in a tight little knot of trees. She spotted a whole bunch of fires close together and walked forward cautiously to investigate...just when she spotted two glowing red eyes (way too close for comfort), a tired looking Didi emerged from the nearby brush!

Relieved, Bernie321 attached Didi’s leash and they headed (quickly) back to the car.

Are you brave enough to meet the mad moose ghost of Connor Bog???

Note: This if a fictional story.  No moose were harmed in the making of this night cache.  Didi is not allowed to chase moose, ghostly or corporeal.

*Some practical matters:   You will need a bright flashlight or headlamp.  The "fires" are best seen with the light held at eye level. Most of the fires burn bright orange (fire tape), but some are a more subtle amber (fire tacks).   You will want boots no matter the season, it is called a bog for a reason.  Expect to go about 1 and 3/4 miles in total (including back to your car). Most of the route is on established trails, some of the fires are spaced further than others - if you don't see the next "fire," try walking in the logical direction down the trail, but keep an eye out for intersections.  And of course, be alert for MOOSE, ghostly and in the flesh!!!
