Geocache Description:

An emphatic, whistled bob-white ringing from a grassy field or piney woods has long been a characteristic sound of summers in the Texas countryside. It’s quite a bit harder to spot a Bobwhite, as the birds have been in sharp decline throughout the past half-century, likely owing to habitat loss and changes in agriculture.  Bob Mione and the Connemara volunteers have been working to reestablish Bob Whites into the meadow for 8-9 years.  They have had rewarding success as broods of mamma and babies have been seen.  Occasionally in the mornings you can hear the bob-white whistle.  This geocache was placed to honor their efforts and hopefully bring attention to the decline of this beautiful ground nesting bird.  If you are lucky you may be able to see some of their efforts nearby.  There is a quail pen that was built to hold young quail and allow them to get accustomed to their surroundings prior to being released into the meadow.

No bicycles, motocycles or vehicles of any type are allowed in Connemara.  Dogs must be on leash at all times and please pick up after them.  Bags are available at the entry to the meadow.
