Geocache Description:

This cache is ideal to do after finishing the Lord Nelson's Last Walk Adventure Lab as it covers the route you will take back to the bonus cache and completes the circular walk.
There is free parking at the Portsmouth City Museum where the Adventure Lab Cache starts and finishes Click here - Lord Nelson's Last Walk or there is pay and display parking on nearby roads. Check the cache pages or museum website for opening days and hours.

The cache is placed because The Adventure Lab is limited to 5 locations however there are more points of interest I would have liked to use. This multi will take you to additional places connected to Nelson which I was unable to include and it will lead you back to the AL bonus cache. Click here - GC8GPJD.

The cache can of course also be completed as a stand alone multi if you prefer.

Waypoint 1 - Lord Nelson's Statue (At the final waypoint for the Adventure Lab).
N 50 47.334 W 001 06.325

In 1951 Dr H. Aldous donated this statue of Nelson to Portsmouth. The statue was relocated from Pembrooke Gardens in 2005 to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
Question
On the plaque on the north-west side of the monument one word is repeated 3 times on the bottom line. The number of letters in this word = A

Waypoint 2 - The Square Tower and the Sallyport (2 questions)
N 50 47.375 W 001 06.401 These coordinates are between the two locations

The Square Tower
In Nelson's day this building was used by the Admiralty as a meat store; beef could be conveniently shipped out to the fleet moored at Spithead from the pier on the seaward side. A semaphore tower was erected in 1823, allowing messages to be sent swiftly to and from London and the fleet.
Question
b On the door of the Square Tower (below the emblem) is a timeline. What year were reinforced concrete placements built on the tower roof? = BCDE

The Sallyport
Just to the right of the tower are two Sallyports (a gateway through a fortified wall) which was the usual point of departure for many naval heroes, including Nelson, although on 14th September 1805 he changed his route to the one in the Adventure Lab due to the crowds in the High Street.
Question
Look on the right hand wall inside the second Sallyport. There is a plaque about The Old Sally Port - The number of letters in the first word, fourth line = F

Waypoint 3 - The Dolphin Hotel
N 50 47.411 W 001 06.223

The Dolphin was well established and popular during Nelson's life. Hanging on the wall inside is a window bearing his initials 'H N' scratched into the glass. The glass was originally from the Star and Garter Inn but was salvaged following its demolition in 1956
Question
Est = GHJK (no need to go inside)

Waypoint 4 - Portsmouth Cathedral
N 50 47.419 W 001 06.217

In 1805 this was the parish church of St Thomas and only about half the size of the present building. It would have been used by Nelson and other naval officers.
The Cathedral houses many treasures including a cross made of timber from HMS Victory and a piece of the flag that was laid on Nelson's coffin at his funeral on 9th January 1806.
Question
What number used to be at these coordinates = LMN

Waypoint 5 - Georgian Houses
N 50 47.483 W 001 06.069

Numbers 12 - 16 High Street are how high street would have looked in 1805 when Nelson passed by on his final journey. Although some windows have been altered the houses give an idea of the general appearance of High street. Sadly many of the other Georgian buildings were destroyed during World War II.
Question
The number of letters in the first part of No. 15's name = P

You will find the cache at
N50 4H.(F-L)KM W001 0(P-N).(B+C)(A+D)C
Checksum for all 15 digits of the coordinates = 59 (to avoid confusion - not a sum of the 14 numbers you collected)
Please retrieve and return the cache with discretion

If you have previously completed the Adventure Lab cache you can now head back to the museum to find the final bonus cache which for those of you that like stats is currently the only 2.5/1 large cache in the Country.
