Geocache Description:


Since 2006, the Northern Virginia Geocaching Organization (NoVAGO) has sought nominations for the outstanding caches placed in the previous year. Then NoVAGO has placed a challenge cache to encourage area cachers to find those nominated caches. The 2012 Challenge cache (GC4DF47) was at this location in Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area.

Most of the 2012 nominated caches have been archived, so the challenge is really much less challenging than it used to be. To maintain the memory of all of the caches, especially the currently active ones, this cache has been published at the same location - but as a traditional cache. Cachers are still encouraged to seek these quality caches, but there is no longer a challenge requirement.

Two parking coordinates are provided for trail access at Meadowood. PLEASE do not park in adjacent neighborhoods. A one-half mile hike on the Meadowood Connector trail will lead you to the cache. You should stay on the trail until you are within 40 feet of the cache.

In order to successfully achieve the challenge, you had to have earned at least half of the available points by finding the caches and series nominated for awards.

1) Caches on the Nominated Caches list were worth 1 point each (even if they were nominated more than once).
2) Completing more than half of the active caches in a series earned 1 point.
3) Each completed series earned 1 additional point.


If you are just getting started in caching, this is a great list of caches with which to start (watch out for those tougher caches). Note: Most of these caches have been archived.
