Kilmock Track is a 2.4 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching.
This gently undulating loop track starts from Fosbender Park and passes through a carpet of bush lily/astelia and hounds tongue fern/kowaowao, beneath gnarled totara trees. Access Fosbender Park to the north off Dunns Road after the Oreti River Bridge.
The loop should take 30-50mins to complete
Ive now trekked this loop quite a few times with the GeoPups collecting caches or just enjoying the view
This track is peaceful and beautiful and well maintained, take your time when wandering the loop and really admire the beautiful Flora in the area.
There are some truely amazing trees that are gnarled and twisted, epiphytic ferns and mosses taking over trees, unfurling ferns and so much more.
This cache will take you to one of the massive Totara trees hidden in this park. I wonder how long "Big Momma" has been there, I wonder how much she has seen?????
To get to Big Momma follow the loop track, when you get close to the dot you have to leave the main track (Don't worry there is a well worn track to the big girl) you will need to trek up quite a steep hill so be sure to get good footing and I wouldn't recommend loose shoes. Once you get to the top you only need to travel down hill a few meters you can't miss the big booty lady in all her glory. Take some time to admire her beauty. Maybe even give her a hug
cache is a 400ml sistema container, containing the log and some swag (room for swaps) container has no pen so BYOP
Be careful when returning to the main track it's harder coming back down from the cache than it is going up
Here are some images from around the walk
