To get here or make your back to the car park you will walk along part of the old 'Liskeard & Caradon' railway line. When mining first started in 1836 the tin and copper ore was taken down by packhorse to the Liskeard & Looe Union Canal at Moorswater, Liskeard and loaded onto barges. This proved slow and difficult so the Liskeard & Caradon railway was built, first operating in 1860. It also transported granite as part of the line you have walked on serves the quary.
Note the 'sleepers' that you can still see are made from granite. Very unusual, think of the manpower and skill to cut these.
