Geocache Description:

Small sized cache. Please re-hide properly.

The Lune Estuary runs between St George's Quay in Lancaster City Centre and Glasson Dock. St George's Quay is a historic port with links to slavery and the imports of cotton and sugar. Glasson Dock is a small village lying at the mouth of the River Lune, south of Lancaster.

A 12 mile cycle track runs along the length of the estuary (see dashed purple line on map below) which is mostly flat, although it can be muddy and flooded depending on the weather. Pubs are available at St George's Quay (1), Condor Green (4) and Glasson Dock (5) if you would like to travel from either end and stop for refreshments along your journey.

You can either walk or cycle along the estuary in either direction depending on where you would like to park. If you decide to walk from Lancaster towards Condor Green and do not want to do the return journey you can catch a bus from outside The Stork Pub back to Lancaster for a couple of £££. The Stork is located not far from the Condor Green parking site (4).

Parking is available at Aldcliffe and Condor Green (see map at points 3 and 4). There is also some on street parking available on Willow Lane near the Lancaster end of the trail.

If you are attempting this series by starting in Lancaster use the following directions, however if you choose to park on Willow Lane you will need to follow the footpath by the children's park towards Freeman's Wood until you reach the crossroads.

From St George's Quay (1) follow the river on the south bank until the end of the road then continue on a narrower surfaced track which then splits into a higher and lower track which both meet back to the same point (3). You will need to use the higher track if the area is flooded, please do not attempt to go through the floods as they can be DEEP! At Aldcliffe (3) continue through the gate along the cycle track which runs along the old railway track until you reach a larger car park at Condor Green. From the car park you will need to cross a small bridge and continue along the sea wall into Glasson Dock until you reach the harbour bridge.
