Geocache Description:

Ari's Snow Challenge

I came out here with Hughling and flatenr and my new geodog Ari to attempt some newly published Challenge caches further up the hill. We saw a sprinkling of snow at about 600 metres elevation, found a much deeper layer by the time we hit the Dozer at 780 metres. We kept going to the next intersection at about 850 metres elevation and decided that it was still fun then, but wouldn't be by the time we got the 3.1 km up the trail to our intended destination. So we turned back. But that had us think about our own winter snow caches... How many have you found?

This is a CHALLENGE cache. Which means you have to sign the log and also qualify to log your find. It is indeed hidden at it's icon position on the map. To qualify for this Challenge, you can use the new fancy "attribute search" function to see how many you have, and check your monthly finds, or much more easily: run the following Challenge Checker... (Thanks Hügh once again!) Please use the checker to show your qualifications in your log.

To qualify, you need to find:

10 caches with the - May require snowshoes attribute

20 caches with the - Snowmobiles allowed attribute

40 caches with the - Seasonal access only attribute

100 caches found within the month of December (cumulative over years!)

100 caches found within the month of January (cumulative over years!)

100 caches found within the month of February (cumulative over years!)

Of course, being a Challenge cache, at the time of publication, I do qualify! This is one that you may sign at any time, but at the time of your logging, you MUST show a successful reflection through the Challenge Checker... If you are putting in a "write note", please leave your note to a minimum length one. Long logs clutter up the page, but I know it's nice to have a date marked of when you signed. All previous and future finds count towards completion of the desired attributes and necessary caches.

The actual Difficulty rating for this cache is searching out the 300 winter caches needed to log this challenge and the actual Terrain is your long hike uphill to the cache! Cache container is a small, green bison tube hanging behind the Summit sign. It is not meant to be a difficult find. Now strap on those hiking boots and prepare for a hike - you will be 4-5 hours round trip to the cache. It is indeed about 850 metres elevation at GZ, so you may encounter snow. Access will be best July - October. Plan accordingly! There is already snow here now, venture out at your own risks and be prepared! We came this far and wisely decided to turn around as the "fun" we were having was going to turn to "not fun". However my Ari was thoroughly enjoying the snow and so we created a momento of this trip.
