Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Fungi series which follows footpaths and the canal towpath between Mowsley and Husbands Bosworth.

Parking is available in the layby at cache 1. Orange Peel Fungus.
The loop is approximately 5 miles long and is best attempted in a clockwise direction.
The caches are a variety of types and sizes; many of the containers are home made from recycled objects. You will need tweezers for some of them and BYOP.
At the time of placing, in November, the footpaths although mostly firm were at times very muddy around farm gates. There were no livestock in any of the fields but I did see plenty of fungi.

Fungi

There are roughly 15,000 types of wild fungi in the UK. Never rely on one source for mushroom identification, and never eat anything unless you are 100% sure it is edible. A fungus is a simple organism, or living thing, that is neither a plant nor an animal. Some familiar fungi are mushrooms, molds, mildews, truffles, and yeasts. The word fungus (plural, fungi) is Latin for mushroom, and indeed, mushrooms are among the most commonly known fungi.

Wood Mushroom

Frequent throughout Britain and Ireland, usually in small, scattered groups but occasionally solitary, the Wood Mushroom is best eaten the same day as it is picked..
