The endangered Leadbeater's Possum is Victoria’s faunal emblem. It was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered in 1961. The species is found only in Victoria, and lives primarily in the ash forests and sub-alpine woodlands of Victoria's central highlands, with a small lowland population to the east of Melbourne.
While we do not have any Leadbeater’s possums here in South Gippsland, this gc is a tribute to these gorgeous little animals and the need to preserve their habitat.
