How many diamonds?
For a triangle which is two small triangles high there are three diamond shapes.
When the large triangle is three small triangles high there are nine diamond shapes.
When the large triangle is four small triangles high there are 18 small diamonds (2 triangle) and 3 larger diamonds (8 triangles)
For a large triangle which is n small triangles high (n<6) the total number of diamonds is given by 3(n2-3n+3)
